悪魔の沼 (AKUMA NO NUMA)

Formed in 2008, Akuma no Numa is a DJ collective consisting of resident members COMPUMA, Dr.NISHIMURA, and AWANO. Once inhabiting the “swamp” of MORE in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo, the three initially gathered irregularly, each exploring the possibilities of the Numa through their own distinctive approach to DJ mixing.

In 2013, they began a new experiment: a three-way back-to-back-to-back DJ style, venturing together into an even more unpredictable and uncharted world of the Numa. Electronic music, house, techno, new age, breakbeats, industrial, acid, electro, disco, world music and beyond dissolve into one inseparable, murky blend—psychedelic, leftfield, and endlessly deep. Moving at a somewhat slower BPM for the dancefloor, their sound gradually pulls listeners further and further into the swamp.

As Akuma no Numa, the three become, in a sense, anonymous inhabitants of the swamp. Their individual identities melt into one another as they connect sounds and simply keep the music flowing. Over the years, a diverse range of DJs and artists have also appeared as guests, each bringing their own interpretation of the Numa.

Following their 10th anniversary, their activities expanded significantly, with a feature on Resident Advisor and appearances at festivals including rural, FUJI & SUN, FRUE, MORI MICHI ICHIBA, EDEN, and sawagi fes, as well as performances across Japan.

A swamp is a place where the earth is wet and the mud runs deep. It is home to wildlife and often becomes a breeding ground for a rich diversity of creatures.
